Anzac Park at a Glance
Anzac Park sits at the northern end of Macrossan Street, overlooking Dickson Inlet. It is home to the town’s war memorial and shady lawns, hosts the Port Douglas Sunday Markets, and is right beside St Mary’s by the Sea.
“There’s a quietness to Anzac Park that the rest of the town doesn’t have. Sit on one of the benches in the shade of the palms, watch the inlet shimmer, and you understand why people come to Port Douglas and don’t leave.”
Anzac Park — A Place of Memory and Morning Light
Anzac Park sits at the northern end of Macrossan Street, overlooking Dickson Inlet. It’s a modest park by any measure, a sweep of lawn, some mature trees, a commemorative memorial, but its position is quietly remarkable. From here you look across the tidal waters of the inlet toward the mountains, and the whole character of Port Douglas as a small, unhurried tropical town becomes tangible. It’s the kind of place locals come to with their morning coffee and visitors stumble across on a walk and end up staying longer than planned.
Remembrance and Respect
The park takes its name from the ANZAC tradition and includes a memorial honouring the service of those from Far North Queensland who served in wars overseas. Anzac Day dawn services are held here each year, drawing the Port Douglas community together in a ceremony that is both intimate and deeply meaningful in a town of this size. The memorial is maintained with care, and the park itself is a fitting backdrop, peaceful, shaded, and facing water that stretches north toward the Pacific.
Part of a Longer Walk
Anzac Park connects naturally to the broader network of walking paths around the Port Douglas peninsula. The Rainforest Boardwalk runs nearby along Dickson Inlet, and the park itself is a natural starting or finishing point for a stroll along Wharf Street toward the marina. It’s also close to several of Port Douglas’s cafés, making it easy to pair a walk with a good breakfast. The market site adjacent to the park hosts the Port Douglas Markets on Sunday mornings, when the area fills with stalls, locals and the smell of fresh coffee.
