Macrossan Street at a Glance

Macrossan Street is the main street of Port Douglas. It runs from Anzac Park, beside Dickson Inlet, to the Four Mile Beach end of town, lined with cafés, restaurants, boutique shops, art galleries and reef tour booking offices. Walking its length takes about ten minutes, and most accommodation in town is within walking distance.

“One street does almost everything here. Coffee, art galleries, reef bookings, Sunday markets, cold beer, a good dinner. Macrossan Street is Port Douglas in a single unhurried walk.”

Macrossan Street — The Soul of Port Douglas

Every town has a street that defines it. In Port Douglas, that street is Macrossan. It runs the full width of the peninsula from the western edge near the Rainforest Boardwalk and Dickson Inlet all the way east to Anzac Park and the beachfront. Along the way it holds the town’s cafés, restaurants, boutique shops, reef tour booking offices, art galleries and a string of small businesses that have shaped Port Douglas into the destination it is today. Walking its length takes about ten minutes. Most visitors take considerably longer.

Shopping and Browsing

The shops along Macrossan Street have a distinctly Port Douglas character — independent, unhurried, with a strong emphasis on locally made and reef or rainforest-inspired goods. You’ll find quality resort wear, handmade jewellery, Far North Queensland produce, books, art and homewares. The Sunday Market at Anzac Park draws additional stalls each week, extending the shopping experience with fresh produce, handcrafts and street food. Dining and Coffee

Macrossan Street has Port Douglas’s highest concentration of cafés, restaurants and bars. Breakfast spots open early for reef-day departures; lunch crowds fill the shaded verandah tables through midday; and by evening the street takes on a more relaxed pace, with restaurants filling steadily and the lights coming on at the bars. Many of the town’s most celebrated dining establishments are on or just off Macrossan Street. For recommendations, visit our Food and Drink guide.

The Sunday Markets and Community Feel

Sunday mornings bring the Port Douglas Markets to the Anzac Park end of Macrossan Street. Stalls arrive from early morning selling tropical fruit, handmade goods, local art and freshly prepared food. It’s one of the more genuine market experiences in Far North Queensland — small enough to feel personal, consistent enough to have built a loyal following. Even if you don’t buy anything, wandering through with a coffee in hand is one of the better ways to spend a Sunday morning in the tropics.

Travel Kindly

At Hot Getaways, care is our compass — and a little kindness makes every journey better. When you visit Port Douglas, we gently ask you to:

  • Respect the wildlife — admire the birds, turtles and rainforest creatures from a distance, and take your rubbish home with you.
  • Support local — choosing local operators, cafés and guides helps this beautiful town thrive.
  • Honour Country — we travel on the traditional lands and sea Country of Australia’s First Peoples, with gratitude and respect to the Traditional Custodians past and present.
  • Be kind to each other — a smile, a little patience and a helping hand make the day lovelier for everyone.

Small acts of care add up to something wonderful. Thank you for travelling kindly.
